As was pointed out to me in The Kranz here in Durlach the other night by my friend Steffen I've not been as active here as in recent months and news has been scarce.
It's not that there's been nothing going on rather there's been too much and most of it required me taking a step back and dealing with away from FB pages.
The X rays and scans on my hips and lower back thankfully showed no signs of arthritis however all my recent problems in that area can now be attributed to a bulging disc (L5) which is putting pressure on a nerve right at the bottom of my spine. As it's been going on for nearly 6 months it's being suggested an operation is necessary to "shave" the disc. Obviously this isn't the time to consider a hospital appointment and I think I need to seek other opinions on less dramatic options. It's not a major operation I've been told but surgery I would like to avoid if possible. I've dealt with the pain for a while as you know and can get through the 6 weeks of touring that's approaching with some care and attention and a few massages here and there.I'm not exactly James Brown on stage so I should be ok! Emoticon smile
My shoulder has been playing up too and I have a painful tendon injury that hasn't yet been properly identified as I am still waiting on an MRI scan to discover what's going on there. Sleep has been difficult in recent weeks and that hasn't helped my moods either.
Between those problems, dodgy knees, a rather large ganglion on my foot that I've been told needs cut out and that I am at the back of the queue for as the appointment offered was when I am on tour, it's a long list of ailments and a reminder of age and wear and tear. I'm glad I'm not a horse as they might shoot me Emoticon smile
I had to address a lot of family issues as well on both sides of the water that required a heavy mixture of diplomacy and patient understanding but I'm glad to say things have settled down and fallen into place with the bonds tighter than before. There's a lot happening in the background but it's all positive.
The office has been under a lot of pressure as Elspeth had to drastically cut down her working hours due to a prolonged illness. With a complete new accounting system being put in place it wasn't the time to be pushing merchandise on the mail order system especially as her assistant Gregor left after picking up a very lucrative acting role in a TV series.Elspeth now is thankfully recovered and we are getting back up to speed and ready for the Christmas rush around the tour with new items coming on line.
In among all that I was writing the sleeve notes for 'Raingods' and 'Fellini Days' which took me back to a period in my life I wasn't looking forward to revisiting as they were dark days indeed. As I wrote what became over 9000 words for each of the titles I was amazed that I actually managed to get through it all back then and put together albums in the chaos.
I didn't want to announce release dates as they have gone back so many times only because of my difficulties in my writing up the history but I can now say the 'Sunsets on Empire' and 'Raingods with Zippos' will be available for pre order as of next week and those remasters will be with us on the 23rd October and for sale on the merch stall on tour. 'Fellini Days' goes into production in the next 2 weeks and 'Field of Crows' I am writing up here on the balcony and 5000 words into already. The first 4 remasters I plan to have ready for December and with a fair wind on the merch stall on the UK tour section.
More news will be available on those in the next few days together with track listings and mock up visuals.
And so here I am once more! On the Balcony in Durlach writing up sleeve notes, dealing with interviews and preparing for the Norwegian festival which is the prelude to the European tour that kicks off in Liverpool the following week. I have no idea where this year has gone.
The writing sessions for 'Weltschmerz' i had planned for September and October got lost in the work overload and I made the decision to cut out all touring options next year and concentrate on the new album. This means that 'Weltschmerz' will not be out until early 2017. This also means the dates in November and December this year will be my last shows for a while with the only potential stage appearances fan club conventions very late 2016 to preview the new material.
I'm glad I've managed to weather this recent storm cluster and thanks to my new glasses I'm looking at a far clearer definition of the future.
There's a lot of news about to break in the coming weeks. Be prepared!
